UNU extends US$75m for environment problem

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: The Japan-based United Nations University (UNU) has extended US$75 million in financial aid to Indonesia to help the country solve its environmental problems.

"About 15 percent of the amount will be allocated for environmental problems in South Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara provinces," UNU international consultant, Ebinezer R. Florano, said here late on Wednesday.

Florano said the aid would be used to finance activities related to the study of climate change and biodiversity, as well as the regreening of denuded forests. -- Antara
