Unreturned official cars to be seized

The Jakarta Post, Tangerang

Several former officials of Tangerang regency, who left their posts almost two years ago, have still not returned their cars.

The vehicles - eight Kijang minivans, a Landrover and a Toyota Hardtop - were taken by the former officials when they were transferred from their positions, according to Soma Atmaja, head of the regency administration's equipment and assets department.

Tangerang Regent Agus Junara had just issued a letter ordering the confiscation of the cars, Soma said, adding that he would carry out the order immediately.

"We will ask for assistance from public order officers when confiscating the cars," he said.

The regent had repeatedly issued warning letters to the former officials, ordering them to return their cars, but to no avail.

Among the former officials who have not returned the cars are: the former head of the environment agency Adil Darmawan, former head of the social and political agency Lt. Col. Soleh, former head of planning and development agency Muntiono and former head of the information agency Maman Sutoyo. Two former officials at the latter agency, Tamba and Nurhasan, have also not returned their official cars.
