United Nations Day to be celebrated

JAKARTA (JP): The United Nations Information Center (UNIC)
will celebrate United Nations Day, which falls on Saturday, with
a series of activities in Gedung Dewan Pers on Jl. Kebon Sirih,
Central Jakarta, from Monday to Friday.

UNIC announced on Friday that the week-long open house,
organized by UNIC in partnership with all UN field offices in
Indonesia, would feature UN worldwide activities in economic,
social and cultural areas.

"Visitors will also be able to ask questions about the work of
the UN and its specialized agencies," UNIC said.

This year's celebration will also focus on the 50th
anniversary of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"To demonstrate the fact that human rights are an intrinsic
and essential component of all activities of the UN in all
fields, the center will display information materials from
various UN organizations dealing with issues such as peace and
security, disarmament, development, humanitarian assistance and
