United Airlines agent

JAKARTA (JP): United Airlines of the United States has appointed PT Cahaya Molek Angkasa Cemerlang as the carrier's general sales agent in Indonesia replacing PT Samudera Indonesia Dirgantara.

The airline said here yesterday the appointment was necessary to anticipate the increasing number of passengers and cargo to the U.S.

United Airlines would also open a marketing arm in Jakarta, the company said.

United Airlines and U.S. air carrier, Northwest Airlines, last year had to twice delay services to Indonesia due to an unsettled aviation dispute between Japan and the U.S.

United Airlines had planned to link San Francisco and Jakarta via Osaka, while Northwest had planned a Seattle-Osaka-Jakarta route last year. The two air carriers had to delay the services until Japan and U.S. settled their dispute. (icn)
