Unique lake now tourist resort

PALANGKARAYA, C. Kalimantan: A lake that naturally desalinates seawater in Sungai Bakau village of Kotawaringin district has been converted into a tourist resort in the hope the region will attract visitors.

"I believe Sungai Bakau will attract tourists because apart from the lake, it has also beautiful rocks and white sand," East Kotawaringin district head Didik Salmijardi was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.

Sungai Bakau is a fishermen's village located in the estuary of Seruyan River which flows southward to the Java Sea. The village has earned popularity because of the unique lake which desalinates seawater that comes in during high tide, making it the main source of clean water in the area.
