Unidentified bodies in morgue

JAKARTA (JP): Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital's morgue received seven unidentified bodies, including a baby, this week.

Eddy Pratiknyo, a morgue staffer, said on Saturday that the bodies will be buried at Semper public cemetery, designated for unidentified bodies and the homeless, in North Jakarta.

Most of the bodies were delivered by police officers to the morgue early last week.

"According to regulation, unclaimed dead bodies can be held at the morgue only for two days. But we're trying to be more tolerant by keeping the bodies at the morgue longer in the hope that they will be claimed by relatives," Eddy said.

The three of the six bodies were men killed in train accidents, while the others died in separate car accidents in the city, he added.

Police said the dead baby was found in a North Jakarta swamp.

The morgue also received seven bodies the previous week. (jun)
