Unemployed get sanitation jobs
In a bid to help the government tackle the unemployment problem, the Central Jakarta Manpower Office are employing at least 375 unemployed people, many of them primary and junior high school dropouts, as sanitation workers.
Endy Sukardi, head of the office, was quoted by Pelita as saying yesterday that the newly hired sanitation workers have been deployed to clean a 2,000 -meter long drainage system in five subdistricts in the mayoralty.
The daily wage of the workers is set between Rp 2,500 (US$1.15) and Rp 3,000. (has)
