Undip recieves 2,955 new students

SEMARANG: The state University of Diponegoro has welcomed a total of 2,955 new students this academic year, its rector Eko Budihardjo said here on Monday.

Accepting the newcomers in a ceremony at the university soccer stadium, Eko said that those who passed this year's entrance test were among 8,060 students from various programs, including postgraduates.

According to Eko, Diponegoro University is the most selective in accepting new students, the 2,955 new students were just 5.4 percent of the total number of high school graduates who took the university's entrance test.

Boasting about the university's standard, Eko said that "Asia Week had declared Diponegoro University, The Best University in Asia."

He did not go into details, but added that according to the National Accreditation Agency, the university was the second best in term of the number of accredited subjects that got an A mark.

"The best is Yogyakarta's Gadjah Mada University, the third is the Bandung Institute of Technology and Jakarta's University of Indonesia is the fourth. We are the second among 50 state universities in the country."

He also said that Diponegoro University had received various aid from abroad for its academic achievements. (har)
