Underpass expected to ease traffic

BEKASI: A two-lane underpass nearing completion in Pasir Sari,
Bekasi, is expected to help ease the heavy congestion in the
Cikarang industrial area, an official said on Wednesday.

Toll road operator PT Jasa Marga reported that the 700-meter
long underpass would be ready by the end of this year.

The project is 90 percent complete with only minor problems
between Jasa Marga and utility companies PT. PLN, Indosat and
Pertamina concerning underground pipelines and electricity
installations near the site.

Each day, hundreds of container trucks travel back and forth
through the area, creating heavy traffic.

"The congestion also comes from ill-disciplined angkot (public
minivan)," Bekasi transportation agency officer Romly said. --
