Uncle, nephew run over by old sedan on sidewalk
TANGERANG (JP): A young child was killed instantly with a broken skull while his uncle died in a medical clinic hours later after an out-of-control old Chevrolet sedan hit them on a street sidewalk on Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto, some 500 meters from the new Cileduk Mall in Cileduk, Tangerang, on Thursday morning.
An officer of Cileduk subprecinct police First. Adj. Insp. Komarudin, who handled the accident, said the victims were four- year-old Bagus Aprilia and his uncle Sutrisno, 31, residents of Jl. KH. Mas Mansyur, Bojong Kunciran, Pinang district of Tangerang.
Komarudin said the bodies were sent to Tangerang General Hospital while the Chevrolet's driver, Arif Rahman, 23, a resident of Jl. Pajak, Cipadu Jaya, Cileduk and his car were detained at Cileduk Police station.
Quoting the driver, Komarudin said that Arif was driving at about 60 kilometers per hour, heading to Cileduk from Kebayoran, South Jakarta, when the car's left door suddenly opened. Arif was trying to reach the opened door while holding the car's steering wheel.
He said that Arif lost control of the vehicle, finally hitting the victims who were standing on the sidewalk.
Separately, Sabit 45, the victims' neighbor told The Jakarta Post at Tangerang Police Headquarters, later in the afternoon, that Bagus and Sutrisno were accompanying Aris, 44, Bagus' father, who was also Sutrisno's elder brother, to buy several electricity devices at a store across the road.
"Aris asked Sutrisno and his son to wait for him by the pavement as he needed to buy a roll of electric wire at a store across the road. But, as soon as Arief crossed the road, the out- of-control car hit his son and his brother," he said.
He added that Aris immediately fainted upon seeing his youngest son's brain matter splattered along the sidewalk while his brother was also dying.
Sabit said Aris, a father of three children was a construction worker who worked in Kunciran. Sabit also worked at the same place.
He added that after Aris regained consciousness, he was taken home, but then fainted again as did his wife, who was deeply shocked upon learning of the deaths. (01)
