UN office to channel aid to Poso residents

POSO, Central Sulawesi: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) has said it will donate Rp 940 million (US$ 98,947) to finance psychosocial training and health service programs in 12 subdistricts in the ravaged province of Poso.

The funds will be channeled through the International Medical Corps, to carry out several programs, such as mobile clinical health services, said Kevin O'Reily, the head of UN-OCHA's Central Sulawesi office, in a press release made available on Monday.

The programs are aimed to help ease the trauma of victims of sectarian clashes in the province, following the conflict in 2000 in which some 2,000 people were killed. -- JP
