UN offers fellowship

JAKARTA: The UN division for ocean affairs and the law of the sea is accepting Indonesians' applications for its annual Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Fellowship on the law of the sea.

The fellowship was established by the UN General Assembly on Dec. 10, 1981, in recognition of late Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe's contribution as the president of the 3rd UN Conference on the Law of the Sea.

The fellowship is intended to enable qualified government officials, research fellows or law of the sea specialists to acquire additional knowledge about the Law and its wider application.

The UN Information Center in Jakarta said the fellowship will be awarded by the end of this year and implemented next year. (pan)
