UKI cancels classes after bomb hoax

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Christian University (UKI) suspended all activities on Thursday following the finding of a package suspected to be a live bomb after receiving a bomb threat by telephone.

The university received a call at about 11 a.m. claiming there were three bombs placed in the campus.

The police bomb squad, who was immediately called to the campus, found a package containing spray-paint, a medicine box and a clock.

A package was found at the faculty of engineering building. No other packages were found.

UKI vice rector Adrianus Siregar said all classes were canceled citing psychological factors.

"We received similar threats in 1999 although no bomb was found," Siregar said as quoted by Antara news agency. -- JP
