UIN to train women preachers

JAKARTA: The British Government has signed an agreement with
the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) on the
holding of a development workshop for women preachers in Banten.

The memorandum of understanding sets out an agreement to carry
out various activities, including a workshop for women preachers
and a residential meeting for British and Indonesian Muslim women
community leaders.

A short course will also be held to introduce the concept of
gender mainstreaming for key administrative and decision-making
staff at Centers for Women's Studies across the UIN and IAIN
network.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, is aimed at supporting
greater understanding and facilitate increased awareness of the
concept of gender mainstreaming both within the UIN system and
society as a whole. -- JP
