UI welcomes new students

New students of state-run University of Indonesia (UI) will get a chance to get to know their rector and senior peers in an orientation program due to run from Aug. 18 through Aug. 25.

Entering students will be asked to draft a paper on student exchange programs and to participate in social activities, while they have also been asked to bring instant noodles and sugar to be given to the needy.

During the week-long orientation, freshmen will be required to wear white clothing.

As part of the orientation program, it is recommended that they join a series of choir rehearsals after the ceremony marking Independence Day on Aug. 17.

"The choir will perform at the farewell party for graduating students," said Dani, who plans to major in tourism.
