UI to become research university

DEPOK, West Java: The University of Indonesia (UI) is striving
to become a recognized research university by 2010 at the latest,
asserted rector Usman Chatib Warsa on Saturday.

"As a university of research, UI will focus on research
programs in science and technology," Warsa said at the graduation
ceremony in Depok, West Java, over the weekend.

He said that with more researchers, UI would be able to
contribute more to the country which now is experiencing a multi-
dimension crisis.

The university has established a research directorate as
preliminary preparations coordinate research activities. --Antara
