UI launches new research center

JAKARTA: State-owned University of Indonesia (UI) launched on Tuesday a research center for social studies, which is named after noted sociologist, the late Selo Soemardjan.

The center is expected to produce academic papers, research papers and books on social sciences, dean of UI's Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri said.

The center was also part of the university's efforts to become a research university.

Built on about 500 square meters of land, the center cost the university nearly Rp 1 billion (US$106,382).

Each semester, the center plans to create at least eight research publications. The center will be given a research grant worth Rp 10 billion for each. --JP
