UGM to open new school of law

YOGYAKARTA: Gadjah Mada University and the Constitutional
Court agree to cooperate on Friday to disseminate information to
the public about the amended Constitution.

As part of the agreement, the Yogyakarta-based state
university will open doctorate programs on Constitutional law and
state administrative law.

Constitutional Court chief Jimly Asshiddigie said after a
memorandum of understanding signing the role of scholars was
needed to help the court enforce the Constitution, regardless of
the controversy prior to its amendments.

"We lack experts in the two fields, while the demand is on the
increase in the wake of regional autonomy. There will be many
regencies seeking experts to draft bylaws and regulations," Jimly
said.

The university will also conduct studies in constitutional and
state administrative law. -- JP
