Udayana to take on more students

DENPASAR, Bali: State-run University of Udayana will accept 3,191 new students in the new academic year starting in August, slightly higher than this year's 3,058 intake, according to Antara on Wednesday.

No explanation was given for the increase in the intake.

I Made Meregawa, the head of the academic department, told the news agency that Udayana would allocate 591 of the available seats to above average students, or students with special skills or talents, including sports, under a special recruitment system known as the PMDK.

All other students must pass the enrollment tests.

Meregawa said that usually, Udayana's schools of medicine, technology, economy, law and agriculture were among the most sought after by school graduates. The schools of Balinese language, history, ancient Javanese language, the Indonesian language and archeology have been the least popular subjects. (04)
