U-17 league kicks off on Sunday

JAKARTA: The Extra Joss U-17 soccer championship will kick off on Sunday, involving 32 school teams divided into four groups across four cities and towns, and will run until Oct. 19.

The championship, which was won last season by UNI Bandung, aims at scouting young soccer talents, who will be encouraged to become professional players.

The four venues are: Bandung, West Java; Surabaya, East Java; Surakarta, Central Java; and Jakarta.

The winning team will claim the trophy and Rp 20 million (US$2,439) in cash, and the runner-up is to receive a cash prize of Rp 10 million. -- JP
