Two-year jail term sought for Zarina's boy
JAKARTA (JP): A prosecutor demanded on Friday the West Jakarta District Court sentence an alleged accomplice of drug suspect Zarina Mirafsur to two years in jail and fine him Rp 5 million (US$714) for possessing and carrying psychotropic substances.
Prosecutor Hasan Madani earlier indicted defendant Ahian Santoso alias Yeye for violating Article 62 of the 1997 Law on psychotropic substances.
The term sought by the prosecutor was below the maximum sentence stipulated in the article, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail and a maximum fine of Rp 100 million.
The indictment said the city police arrested Ahian and former television actress Zarina in a hotel-apartment in West Jakarta on Nov. 11 last year during an early morning raid.
"During the arrest, the police confiscated 0.3 grams of shabu- shabu (crystal methamphetamine), tin foil and paraphernalia used to smoke the drug," said prosecutor Hasan during the hearing.
The indictment said the officers also confiscated four "Happy Five" tranquilizers from Ahian's wallet during the arrest.
It also stated that Ahian possessed and smoked shabu-shabu along with Zarina and other friends in a house located in the Duren Sawit area of East Jakarta on Oct. 1, 1999.
Zarina is being tried at the same district court for drug possession.
Presiding judge Sri Handojo adjourned the hearing until next Tuesday to hear the defense statement. (asa)
