Two workers fall from building

JAKARTA (JP): Two workers plunged to their death after falling from a 35-meter-high building construction on Jl. Jend. Sudirman, in South Jakarta, yesterday. Another worker suffered severe injuries in the accident.

Ogon, who is being treated at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for injuries to his head and body, said he and his friends, Musa and Pudin, fell when several steel rods supporting the construction frames collapsed.

"I was welding a steel rod when the accident occurred," the 23-year-old worker said.

Musa, 20, died instantly at the scene while Pudin, 25, died later in hospital.

The three workers lived in Tasikmalaya, West Java.

Kebayoran Baru Police Chief Maj. Eko Hadisutedjo said the police would investigate the accident. "But so far we haven't received a report about the accident."

Following the accident several security officers cordoned off the area near the construction, which is planned to be used later as a discotheque. (jun)
