Two wanted fugitives shot in North Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Two robbers were arrested Tuesday after being wounded by police bullets in two separate chases, the City Police spokesman said yesterday.
Maj. Nyoman Suriasta, said the police shot Achmad, 26, of Kebon Sayur, Pademangan, and Iwan, alias Hendri, 28, of Kampung Tengkis, Pademangan, in North Jakarta.
The two men were involved in another robbery at the International Trading Center shopping center, Mangga Dua, Central Jakarta last week.
"The police had to shoot Achmad's right foot at Kampung Bandan, Mangga Dua, Tuesday night because he ignored a police warning and tried to run away," Nyoman said.
The other man, Iwan, was shot in the left foot on the same night while trying to elude police at the Mangga Dua train station, he said.
Achmad and Iwan robbed Cecilia Yunus at the ITC Mangga Dua last week. The two made off with her gold ring and bracelet worth Rp 400,000 (US$166), he said.
"But their accomplice, Abdullah, was caught by security a couple of hours later," Nyoman said. Abdullah's confession led the police to the fugitives's hideouts, he said. (04)
