Two villages given computer facilities

YOGYAKARTA: To provide local farmers with access to world markets, the Sleman administration installed communications facilities in two villages here on Tuesday in observance of National Technology Day.

The project was initiated in cooperation with the Yogyakarta office of state-owned company PT Telkom.

The communications facilities, including computers, were handed over to the two villages, Trumpon and Turi, by Sleman Regent Ibnu Subiyanto. Both are known for their salak fruit production, which offers attractive agro-tourism possibilities in Yogyakarta.

The regent said that, as part of a greater communications network, the villages would have more chances to market their products.

Sleman plans to set up similar facilities in the hamlet of Brajan in Sendangarum village, Mingir subdistrict, which is known as a tourist area as well as a production center of bamboo-made handicrafts and furniture. --JP
