Two unions hold congress
JAKARTA: The tourist sector's union elected Ali Samioen as its chairman and Sofyan to the secretary-general position through 2003 at a recent congress in Cianjur, West Java.
Ali said the congress, attended by 250 delegates representing all 27 chapters and 125 sectoral union units, proceeded smoothly and democratically.
Meanwhile, the trade union in the wood and forestry sector elected Sofyati as chairwoman and Latifu Ali as secretary-general through 2003 at its congress in Ciloto, West Java.
Sofyati said the congress that ended on Friday was attended by 200 delegates from 16 chapters and the election was run democratically.
The two along with nine other sectoral unions formed recently a new federation of the All Indonesian Workers Union (FSPSI Reformasi) headed by Hartono.
The two unions' chairs and secretaries-general will automatically be included in FSPSI Reformasi's 22-member national council.
The other nine sectoral trade unions will also hold a similar congress this month to elect their new executives. (rms)
