Two tourists hurt in robbery

YOGYAKARTA: Two foreign tourists were wounded attempting to resist robbers on a bus from Borobudur temple on Thursday.

Mrs. Kumike Avitut, 25, of Australia and Paul Anthony, 32, from England, needed medical treatment after their struggle.

Avitut was hospitalized with a knife wound while Anthony, who required stitches for a head wound, was released after treatment.

Joko Hartono, who witnessed the attack, said a gang of three or four people boarded the bus as it was leaving Kyai Mojo street. The two tourists were robbed of US$ 750.

Police are investigating the robbery. (ste)
