Two tiger trainers injured
BOGOR: Two tiger trainers were injured after they were bitten
by their animals in two separate accidents at Safari Indonesia
Park in Cisarua, Bogor, over the weekend.
Agus Wahyu Setiawan, 29, had to be hospitalized at Cipto
Mangunkusumo Central Hospital after a Bengali tiger bit him on
the back of his neck on Saturday at 10 p.m.
The park's spokesman, Asep Firmansyah, told The Jakarta Post
on Monday that Agus was leaving the guard tower after switching
off the lights at the tiger enclosure after the night safari
program when one of the tigers snatched and dragged him a few
meters.
"The accident happened because our trainer was careless. He
was only supposed to leave the tower after the pick-up car had
arrived," Asep said.
The right hand of another trainer, Tati, 21, was seriously
wounded after one of the four white tigers got out of control
during a special show.
Tati and her fellow trainers managed to send three of the
white tigers to their cage but the last one fought back and bit
her right hand.
She received medical treatment at Cisarua Tuberculosis
Hospital and is now taking a rest at her boarding house in
Cisarua. -- JP
