Two students invent firefighting robot

JEMBER, East Java: Two students with the technical faculty of Muhammadiyah University in Jember regency, East Java province, have invented a firefighting robot (F2R).

The students, Dani Mayangsari and Adi Gunawan, said here on Friday that the robot could automatically move toward the source of fire.

Dani said the robot was equipped with an infranet sensor to facilitate its movement, and a photo transistor to detect fire and its source.

Both investors needed at least two months and more than Rp 2 million (US$222) to assemble the robot.

Adi said the motivation behind their hard work and dogged perseverance to assemble the robot was to lighten the burden of firefighters. --Antara
