Two sought for stealing taxi

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police detectives are searching for two men in connection with Monday night's theft of a taxi on Jl. Poncol Raya in Cirendeu, Ciputat.

South Jakarta Police chief of robberies and thefts unit First. Lt. Budhi Herdi identified the driver as Iwan, 33, who drove a maroon Gaspermindo Taxi, which is part of the Kosti Jaya group.

"The robbers used the taxi, with registration number B 1171 UZ and door number 032, from the Sarinah area in Central Jakarta, and asked to be taken to the Pondok Cabe area in South Jakarta," Budhi said on Tuesday.

"Both robbers sat in the backseat. On the way, they threatened Iwan with a bayonet and tied him up with shoelaces, before dumping him on Jl. Poncol Raya at about 11 p.m. They sped off in the taxi. Thankfully, Iwan was unhurt." (ylt)
