Two shot in thwarted burglary

BEKASI: Two burglary suspects were shot on Wednesday as they were attempting to steal cash from a house in Bekasi.

Juhaini, 20, was shot in the stomach and Oktovianus, 30, was shot in the leg near the Perum Bumi Makmur II housing complex.

Their accomplice, Syarif, 27, surrendered to police soon after they arrived at the scene.

Local police said the suspects were shot because they resisted arrest.

Several neighbors of Reni Kusbandini, the owner of the house, had reported the burglary in progress to Pondok Gede police station. When police arrived, Juhaini and Oktovianus apparently took to their heels.

The two are being treated at police hospital Raden Said Sukanto in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. -- JP
