Two robbers shot in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Bogor Police shot two men for resisting arrest in a predawn raid on Monday at Kampung Damping in Pamalayan district of Serang regency, West Java, an officer said.

Bogor Police chief Supt. Bambang Wasgito said the two, Tobing alias Obing, 35, and Are, 30, alleged members of a notorious gang of armed robbers, were both shot in their thighs as they attacked the officers.

The two reportedly died on Tuesday.

Bambang said the two were among nine members of the "Mandor" gang of armed robbers, a group of fierce thugs who have executed loads of robberies in Bogor, often injuring or killing their victims.

"We raided a house belonging to Obing's younger wife and recovered two assembled Colt pistols with 10 bullets of 5.56 mm and 9 mm from the men," the officer said.

Five Suzuki cars, four sickles, a machete, various car keys and radios were also confiscated from the house as evidence.

Previously on Thursday, police raided a rented house in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta and arrested five alleged gang members identified as Jaya, alias Mandor, leader of the gang, Yunus alias Buyung, Tatang, Toto and Mista.

The five admitted to having committed dozens of armed robberies; the last one was the burglary at chicken farm PT Cindelaras in Kampung Ciater, Gunung Sindur district on the outskirt of Bogor regency on Aug. 26, the officer said.

"Now we have two robbers (in the group) left to catch," he said, adding that all gang members were experienced crooks.

"Tatang, for instance, has committed at least 20 vehicle thefts, Buyung, 16 burglaries and Toto, one murder plus other robberies," Bambang said.

Tobing and Are were involved in the murder of Tatang Arifin in Tegalwaru Ciampea area on Bogor on March 23 last year. (21/edt)
