Two robbers mobbed on street

JAKARTA (JP): Police held two men after they had been mobbed by angry residents on Jl. Juanda, Gambir in Central Jakarta late on Wednesday for allegedly robbing a bus passenger.

Gambir subprecinct police chief Comr. Nurhadi said, the suspects, Ari, 21, and Yudi, 24, -- both residents of Perumnas I, Tangerang -- had tried to rob a passenger on a city bus plying the Grogol-Pasar Baru route.

He said another passenger who happened to see what was going on shouted "robber" repeatedly, causing the two suspects to run off, discard a sickle and a knife of theirs in Ciliwung river.

He added that other people along the road, who heard the shouting, chased and caught up with the two men and beat them up before they handed them over to the police.(01)
