Two robbers mobbed in Tangerang

TANGERANG: Angry residents from Jl. Megak, Cijengir village, Curug district mobbed two men who tried to steal a public minivan on Jl. Megak, Cijengir village, Curug district, Tangerang, on Wednesday afternoon.

One of them died instantly while the other one died shortly after in hospital.

Deputy chief of Tangerang Police detectives Insp. Kustanto said the men, identified as Yahud, 16, and Adi Yunus, 20, pretended to charter the minivan to take them from Jl. Gajah Tunggal to a place in Curug.

The minivan driver Adi Priyono, 30, agreed to take them for Rp 60,000. When the minivan passed a quiet area on Jl. Megak, one passenger who was sitting in the back seat suddenly rubbed chilly sauce into the driver's eyes, causing him to zigzag and plunge into a shallow ditch.

As the robbers tried to take over the minivan, the driver shouted for help. His calls for help were heard by local residents who ran to his assistance and attacked the two robbers. --JP
