Two prisoners still on the run
JAKARTA (JP): One of three prisoners who managed to escape from the Sawah Besar Police subprecinct's cell rooms early Monday morning has been recaptured, police said on Thursday.
"The Sawah Besar Police subprecinct chief and his deputy have been ordered to recapture the escapees," said Central Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Bintang Timur.
A Central Jakarta military police officer, who asked for anonymity, said police had caught one of the escapees at his house in Karanganyar, Sawah Besar subdistrict on Monday night.
The prisoners managed to escape by sawing through the cell's padlock with a metal saw at around 2:30 a.m. Police are still investigating how they could have acquired the tool.
The military police officer said there were two officers guarding the cell room, while two others were posted at the front gate -- the only way out -- when the escape took place.
The men were arrested for various offenses. Cecep Setiawan Wijaya, 36, was arrested for carrying firearms, a sharp weapon, shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) and ecstasy. He was arrested on Sept. 9.
Afin Suci, 26, was arrested for possessing shabu-shabu while Tuham, 18, was caught in possession of dried cannabis. Both were arrested on Oct. 6.
All of them were arrested on Jl. Mangga Besar Raya in a routine police operation.
The Jakarta Police internal affairs unit have detained seven police officers, including a superintendent officer, for further questioning. (01/05)
