Two power plants in C. Java

JAKARTA (JP): Local companies in cooperation with foreign firms will build power plants in the Central Java towns of Jepara and Cilacap this year.

Central Java investment coordinating board Soedarsono said in Semarang Saturday the Jepara power plant would be built by a joint venture between Indonesia's PT Tanjung Jati Power Company and an American firm.

The power plant will cost about Rp 3.9 trillion rupiah (US$1.6 billion).

Construction will be completed by the end of next year.

The plant will employ 456 workers, including 36 expatriates.

The Cilacap power plant will cost Rp 1.4 trillion and be built by a consortium of Indonesia's PT Citra Kartika Daya and investors from Japan and Hong Kong.

The government supported the projects and was providing the investors with all facilities needed, he said. (jsk)
