Two orphaned after road accident

BOGOR: A couple died instantly after a road sign struck their minivan, which was traveling near Cibubur on Jagorawi toll road, while their two children, Maria Lavino, 16, and Alfian, 2.5, suffered severe injuries and are now being treated at the Harapan Bunda Hospital.

According to a toll road official, Dadang Sumaryana, the accident took place at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, when Sumarno Aritono, 47, a resident of Kali Baru, North Jakarta, his wife Ehayani, 30, and their children were traveling to Bogor.

A speeding truck in front of their car went out of control and hit the road sign, which later fell on the car, Dadang said.

The truck driver, Asmani, and his assistant, Didik, are being treated at the UKI Hospital in East Jakarta. -- JP
