Two nabbed for supplying funny money

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta police arrested two suppliers of counterfeit banknotes late on Wednesday as they were attempting to sell the forgeries on Jl. Sugiyono here. The two suspects were named as Nuryanto and Irvan.

From the two, the police seized Rp 7.8 million in counterfeit money in the form of 150 sheets of Rp 50,000 notes and three sheets of Rp 100,000 notes, said Keraton police subprecinct chief Adj. Comr. Meila Ribut.

Irvan, one of the two suspects, said that he had hoped to make a huge profit from selling the counterfeit money. He would exchange Rp 2,500,000 in counterfeit notes in return for Rp 1,000,000 in original ones.

Meanwhile, Nuryanto denied that he had produced the money, saying that he got it from a person named Yoyo. -- JP
