Two men killed in attacks

JAKARTA: A man died in the hospital on Saturday night after being attacked by a group of youths in Cakung, East Jakarta.

Earlier on the same day, another man was mobbed to death after attempting to steal a motorcycle from a repair shop on Jl. Mangga Dua, West Jakarta, at about 12:30 a.m.

Yusuf, 22, a resident of Cakung Barat, was taken to Persahabatan Hospital after being attacked by a group of youths, where he died from the sickle wounds he suffered in the attack.

The victim's brother, Rochmana, confirmed that a group of people had attacked Yusuf, but said he did not know the reason for the deadly assault.

In the other incident, Abdul Gani, alias Ayung, the owner of a repair shop in Mangga Dua, shouted when he saw a man attempting to steal a motorcycle from his shop. When Ayung gave chase, an accomplice of the thief stabbed him, though not fatally.

Local residents, alerted by Ayung's shouts, arrived and mobbed the two alleged thieves. One of the men died, while the other suffered serious injuries.--JP
