Two killed in cracker incident

MAGELANG, Central Java: Two people were killed and three critically injured when the house they were using as an illegal firecracker factory exploded Wednesday, police said yesterday.

Those killed in the incident were a 50-year-old woman and her 10-year-old grandson. Her 54-year-old husband, 24-year-old daughter and 10-year-old niece were seriously injured.

Magelang police precinct Chief Lt. Col. Rachmad told The Jakarta Post the family had ignored the authorities' and neighbors' warnings about the dangers of making firecrackers.

The family usually illegally produced firecrackers for Idul Fitri revelries. (har)
