Two injured in Sorong plane crash

JAYAPURA, Papua: A Cessna plane belonging to the Association Mission Aviation (AMA) crashed upon landing at the Sorong airport on Sunday morning.

All three people on board survived.

The plane skidded along the runway at Domine Eduard Osok Airport and into a swamp at the end the runway. One passenger, Rosalina, broke her right leg, while the, Anisa, sustained bruises to the head. The pilot, Welli Kochu, was uninjured.

The two injured passengers were admitted to Sorong General Hospital. Sorong is located 1,100 kilometers west of Jayapura, the capital of Papua.

The airport head, Panji Supadmonobo, said the cause of the accident was unknown as yet. The weather was fine when the plane skidded into the swamp at 10:43 p.m. local time, he said.

Panji added that the pilot had notified the airport tower of engine problems prior to landing. -- JP
