Two ex-councillors summoned over graft

JAKARTA: Two former Depok councillors, Lt. Col. (ret) Ali Sumaris Sudamasa and Lt. Col. (ret) Saliman Mireja, are scheduled to be questioned over graft allegations on Friday, Jakarta Police anticorruption chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Anton Wahono said.

The two failed to answer a police summons on Tuesday.

A total of 20 former Depok councillors, whose term ended recently, have been named suspects in the misuse of Rp 9 billion (US$979,538) from the city budget in 2002.

On Tuesday, the police detained 12 of the former councillors, all of whom were members of the budget committee of the Depok Council. Seven other suspects were detained on Sept. 6.

Police have been unable to question another suspect, Manahan Erwin Limbong, because he is suffering from a heart-related illness. -- JP
