Two die in Lahat typhoon

LAHAT, South Sumatra: Two people died, three sustained minor injuries and five houses were destroyed during a typhoon here early on Sunday when most residents were asleep. Antara reported on Tuesday that the typhoon hit Talangkibul village in the Pendopo district here hardest.

The one-hour disaster prompted 2,000 residents to flee in panic. On Monday residents said the victims were Sulastri, 45, and Supriojo, 40. Imron, a survivor, said the bodies were found under the ruins of their homes.

Regent Solichin Daud said assistance had been channeled to the area.
