Two-day closure for entertainment spots

JAKARTA: The Jakarta administration announced on Wednesday that most entertainment centers in the city would be required to close up shop for two days ahead of Idul Adha (the Islamic Day of Sacrifice), which falls on Friday.

"In line with Gubernatorial Decree 98/2004 on the tourism industry in Jakarta, night clubs, discotheques, bars, massage parlors and steam baths must stop their operations for two days before and during the festival," said city spokesman Catur Laswanto.

Entertainment spots located on hotel premises, however, would still be allowed to open, he said.

He revealed that officers from the Jakarta Public Order Agency and Jakarta Tourism Agency would monitor compliance with the decree.

"Should these centers violate the decree, we may impose sanctions on them, including mandatory closure," he said. -- JP
