Two criminals shot to death

East Jakarta police shot and killed two men and arrested two
others after they tried to rob a woman on Jl. D.I. Pandjaitan,
East Jakarta, on Saturday.

The two deceased men were identified as Diaz, 23 and Moch.
Zaini, 28. Their suspected accomplices were identified as Ha and
Rus, both 27 years of age, Suara Karya daily reported.

Investigation has revealed that the four planned the theft
when they saw a brown envelope from Bank Bumi Daya, a state owned
bank, in a minivan owned by Sri R.S, an employee of PT Tigaraksa
Satria in Jl. Museum, Central Jakarta.

They followed Sri's car on two motorcycles. When she stopped
at a traffic light, they placed nails under her tires.

After leaving the stop light and realizing her car's tires
were flat, Sri stopped at a tire repair shop on Jl. D.I.
Pandjaitan. The criminals used the opportunity to grab Sri's
purse and run.

Alerted by Sri's shouts for help, three nearby policemen
rushed to her assistance. When the criminals kept running despite
the fact the officers fired warning shots, they had no other
choice than to shoot at them. Diaz was shot in the head and Zaini
in the neck.(mas)
