Two councillors probed for graft

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: East Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office is probing the wealth of two former leading councillors in the province who are facing corruption charges.

"Several prosecutors have been deployed to make an inventory of the wealth of former councillors in East Kalimantan and other provinces," said senior prosecutor Sugeng Purnomo on Tuesday.

The councillors in question are Soekardi Jarwo Putro, former speaker of the East Kalimantan provincial council for the 1999 to 2004 term and Khairul Fuad, Jarwo's deputy who remains on the council for the 2004 to 2009 term.

The two have been accused of involvement in a Rp 85 billion (US$9.4 million) corruption case. -- JP
