Two commit suicide by hanging

JAKARTA (JP): Two young people hanged themselves in their homes over the past five days, raising the toll from suicides to 11 this year.

Neighbors found Tri Hendrianto, 27, a resident of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, hanging by a piece of cloth in a bathroom at 4:30 a.m. yesterday, according to one of his relatives who asked not to be named.

He said the unemployed man may have been despondent after his mother refused to give him money. Tri had asked for Rp 200,000 on Wednesday night without giving any clear explanation on why he needed the funds.

"But to Tri's disappointment, his mother rejected his request, saying that she did not have that amount of money," he said.

Tri's mother is a housewife and his father works as a driver, he said.

After undergoing a postmortem at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Tri's body was collected by his family yesterday afternoon for burial.

A woman who hanged herself at her home in Rawabadak, North Jakarta, last Sunday was identified as Freety Pangemanan.

A relative said the 26-year-old may have decided to end her life after her parents did not approve of her plan to marry a police officer.

Family, friends and her boyfriend mourned her death Monday morning at Cipto Mangunkusumo, where Freety's body was sent for autopsy. (09)
