Two bombs found at Bitung port

MANADO, North Sulawesi: Two homemade bombs were found by a longshoreman in front of the terminal gate of Samudera Bitung seaport on Thursday.

Riton Jafar said he was surprised to find the homemade bombs, and quickly reported the finding to the Port Police.

Chief of the Port Police Adj. Comr. Milke Mukuan arrived on the scene with members of the bomb squad.

An officer told The Jakarta Post that the bombs were ready to explode.

Reports on the finding of the bombs scared people at the port, who quickly sought safety.

"There is nothing to worry about, the defused bombs are being examined at the National Police's Mobile Brigade office in Manado," Bitung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Wilmar Marpaung said.

A port official speculated that the bombs might be detonated on a passenger ship which was about to set sail. (48)
