Two Bangladeshis arrested

JAKARTA (JP): Officers of the Tangerang immigration office captured two Bangladeshis in Tangerang on Monday for allegedly breaching immigration regulations, the office's head, Dody Mawardi Wibowo, said.

Dody was quoted by Antara as saying that the two, identified as Mohammad Abdul Hossian (holder of passport No. 0791423) and Alam Bhuiyan (passport No. 0605013), were arrested when they applied for stay permits at the Batusari subdistrict office in Tangerang.

They were arrested after a Batusari subdistrict employee noticed alterations had been made to the dates of their visas, Dody said.

"We found irregularities in the passports," he said.

He said the two admitted to the immigration officers that they evaded arrest in Malaysia after their work permits had expired and they fled the country.

"They intended to seek jobs here even though they know that Indonesia is having a monetary crisis," Dody said.

It was not immediately clear as to where the two were detained. (hhr)
