Two alleged rebels killed

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Military (TNI) claims to have killed two more Free Aceh Movement (GAM) members and seized eight rifles in an operation on Sunday, an officer said on Monday.

Spokesman for the military operation in Aceh Lt. Col. Asep Sapari said the two alleged rebels, identified as Safwan M. Diah, 29, and Ibnu Hajar Yusuf, 21, were gunned down during an exchange of fire in Peureulak district in East Aceh.

Asep said a search around the site of the clash found 86 live bullets, 14 homemade bombs, five kilograms of explosive powder and other materials to make bombs.

In separate operations in Jeumpa district in Bireuen regency and Kota Baru district in Aceh Besar regency, military and police troops captured an alleged GAM local commander and seized eight weapons. -- Antara
