TVs damaged by high voltage

JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of television sets and lamps were damaged when the electricity voltage was immediately leaping on Sunday morning in Tangerang.

The residents planned to ask for compensation for their damaged goods to the state-owned electricity company PLN.

"PLN has to be responsible because the company is in charge of handling the electricity network," Hasan, a resident, said.

As of the yesterday the residents were still registering their damaged goods to the head of the community units.

It was reported by Kompas daily yesterday that besides TVs, the damaged goods also include refrigerators, water pumps, tape recorders, and lamps.

A resident said the incident occurred since Saturday when the electricity suddenly jumped to 380 voltage from its normal rate at only 220 voltage.

PLN has not yet given answer regarding compensation claimed by the residents because it was still waiting for instruction from the central office. (01)
